Seeing as I didn’t write anything for three months, I guess I shouldn’t be surprised that I was unable to keep myself brief enough that a part 2 wasn’t warranted. Read on to see what I thought of the Isekai series that started in the fall and continuing through this season as well as see which series I name the best new series and best overall series of the season.
In a shock to almost no one, the long forecasted demise of anime did not occur during the recently completed Winter 2019 season. Instead, we got another solid season of anime made more impressive because the winter season, like the summer season, is considered an off-season for the industry. And I almost missed it because of my shoddy time management skills and because of a certain slime-tastic video game.
Even in the best seasons, not every anime of the season will turn out positively and this season was definitely not one of the best. Before I turn my attention to the fall season, I want to highlight some of the anime that made this season slightly difficult to get through.
Since I have a little space to fill before we move onto my top 5 best anime of the summer season – which I promise will shock you – I might as well talk about some of the other reasons why I haven’t been around in months.
Hello, long time no see.
How y’all doing? I know there are precious few people out of the already precious few that read this blog that care what I’ve been up to since last April, when I last wrote something for The Null Set, so, I’ll keep this brief. Probably the biggest reason for this hiatus was the enthusiasm killing perception I had with the summer season. There were so few shows that I had any hope with that I found myself dreading the season in June and avoiding pretty much all anime in July then deciding in August that I shouldn’t skip the season and began forcing myself to watch all the mediocre shows that were on my backlog until September rolled around and I went back and picked up a few shows I initially passed over and realized I’d miss some of the best this season had to offer.
It’s these final pickups that turned out so good that have guilted me into writing this summary, even after pretty much everyone has moved onto the current fall season. And so, we’ll start with shows I felt were the best of the season and they just happened to number a nice round ten.
One of these times a seemingly weak anime season will actually be as bad as it looked going in. I thought the streak might end with the Summer 2017 season; however, once again, I missed several quality series in my initial estimation and this season turned out to be a pretty decent one. It was far from being one of the best but it also was far from being the worst. Of the fifteen series that I watched this season, six were good enough to warrant inclusion on a best of season list. How did your favorites fair? Read on to find out.
