The Octave of Anime Christmas – Day 8: Watching Anime with my Mom

For this last day of my look back at 2016 and anime, I have to cover another item that’s not really a moment, but, was important to me.

A year ago, at the start of 2016, my Mom was about halfway through her chemo and it was kicking her down like it was supposed to. She didn’t have much energy, so, I had taken it upon myself to cook dinner for her to make sure she’d get at least one full meal each day. She spent so much of her day on the couch that, while eating, I’d put on a new-to-her show to watch.

We plowed through many shows this way. I’d already gotten her hooked on Doctor Who so we went and watched a good sized chunk of classic Doctor Who. She likes detective shows and has a warm spot for British TV so we watched the original Broadchurch, Rosemary & Thyme, a couple seasons of Father Brown, Whitechapel, and Inspector Lewis.

I started running out of shows to show her.

The Octave of Anime Christmas – Day 6: Family

In one of those funny timing things that happens every so often, I began rewatching Natsume’s Book of Friends (Natsume Yuujinchou) this year. As I was nearing the end and wishing the end wasn’t so soon – one of 2016’s biggest pleasant surprises occurred – a fifth season of Natsume was announced for the Fall 2016 season.

I was elated. I was ecstatic.

I was worried.
