Test Your Anime Knowledge – Anime Quiz 3

I went to see Ridley Scott’s Moses movie last night with the family. The title of the movie is Exodus: Gods and Kings and before I saw it I found I had trouble remembering which movie I was going to see. If I thought of it as “the Moses movie” I remembered I was going to see the Moses movie; if I thought of it as “Exodus” I thought of the fictional anime in Shirobako and I started thinking I was going to an animated feature that was going to end with a trio of magic girls on the back of horse riding off into the sunset as they evaded the cops. Not to knock Exodus: Gods and Kings, because it was a good movie, but I’m not sure which movie I would have rather have watched.

Anyways, I was pressed for time this week again – these Mondays come around too fast – so I hope there’s no errors or mistakes because I tried being a bit more ambitious with the questions this week.

Question 1: Name the anime that features these three characters – Tohru Honda, Shigure Sohma, Kyo Sohma.

Question 2: Name the anime that features these three characters – Hajime Saitou, Kaoru Kamiya, Megumi Takani.

Refer to the following picture for questions 3 – 5.

anime_quiz_03_01Question 3: Counting only TV series, no OVAs or movies etc., place these six series in order from oldest to youngest. For series that were rebooted, use the first series that reached 100 episodes.

Question 4: Three of these series were/are animated by one animation studio, which studio and which anime.

Question 5: Using the series from question 3 as a starting point, which of these franchises has had the most episodes made? Count further sequel series but not spin-offs or rebooted series.

anime_quiz_03_02Question 6: These four series share an organizational connection. What is it?

anime_quiz_03_03Question 7: These four series share a personal connection. What is it?

Question 8: The song “Tori no Uta” is the opening song to which anime?

Question 9: The song “Ride on Shooting Star” is the ending song to which anime?

For questions 10 – 15, I wanted to have people match groups of characters to either being a specific season of anime or a specific seiyuu. However, I don’t think I can get the formatting to work well enough; so, instead, for each question I will have a picture of four characters and six multiple choice answers. The correct answer will be the one either of the season that all four characters were in or the seiyuu that voiced all four characters. Each answer will be used once.

  3. 1. Fruits Basket
    2. Rurouni Kenshin
    3. If I correctly understand what you mean by the “count the first series to 100 episodes” rule, then it should be E, F, C, A, B, D, since the original Hunter x Hunter didn’t make it to 100 episodes but the 2011 reboot did.
    4. Studio Pierrot – A, C, F
    5. C

  4. @jstorming:Your doing all right with these quizzes. You thought the shounen questions were easy but I would have had difficulty getting those questions right since I’m not a big long form shounen fan.

@miharusshi: Always making me look things up, Dengeki Bunko published Durara.

@Jim D: yep, you understood question 3 correctly and it’s one of my favorite openings list as well.

  5. My 5 favorite anime openings other than Tank (because that one doesn’t need any more praise), in no particular order:
    Pre-Parade (Toradora)
Higurashi no Naku Koro ni (HnNKn)
    Cagayake Girls (K-On)
The Light Before We Land (Gunslinger Girl)
My Soul, Your Beats (Angel Beats)

Jun Maeda definitely has a knack for writing memorable opening songs. Tori no Uta and Last Regrets are both right behind MSYB in the next group of five.

  6. @Jim D: I’ve yet to see Gunslinger Girl but I like/love all the other songs you mention. I’ve never constructed a favorite anime song list; I might be able to get an interesting post out of that 🙂 .
