Top Anime Picks – Summer/Fall 2010, Part 1: Cast and Character Awards

Eagle-eyed readers will notice that I intend to review not just the most recent anime season but also the previous season as well. The reason for this is two-fold. The first reason is because these awards are my short-cut method in highlighting which anime I would recommend to potential viewers and I’d be failing in what I see as my duty if I passed over a season that contained praise-worthy shows. (Even though by now I’m incredibly late in covering the summer season. 🙂 ) The second reason is writing this post will help me better remember this batch of anime shows in the future and it will also serve as a written record I can use if need be.

So, sit back, relax – it’s time to cover 32 anime over 2 seasons with 29 award categories and one countdown bursting at the seams with awesomeness.

Panty and Stocking 10 – So Awesome, I Feel the Need to Blog Again and Even Make a New Poll

Before I get to the awesomeness, I feel the need to get a little meta.

A quick look at the previous post’s title shows that I haven’t written anything for The Null Set in roughly 3 weeks. This was entirely unplanned and was the result of several factors falling into place at exactly the wrong time. The first was a general sapping of enthusiasm towards anime brought on by looking forward and discovering that the next season just looks appallingly abysmal. (The new series by Gainax and Shaft will probably turn out good and that’s probably it.)

The Final 9 Fall 2010 Anime Impressions – From Arakawa Under the Bridge to Yosuga no Sora

Making a list of the new fall anime that I still have to write impressions for, I discovered that nine more needed covered – or slightly more than half – and I’d already taken the ones easy to talk about. I was on pace for the last impression posts written to be series review posts; clearly, something needed done, something drastic.

Like combining all 9 shows into one post and just write the most pertinent items for each show. 🙂 Madness I know.

The comedic story of one squid girl’s attempt to invade and conquer the land-dwellers has been a surprise pick-up on my part. It hasn’t been the funniest show of the season but it’s been pretty solid so far which makes it somewhat difficult to discussion. Good enough that it’s hard to discuss what’s wrong with it but not quite good enough that I can expound at length why it’s awesome. So I’m going change the format I normally use.

I noticed something after watching the second episode of Kuragehime that I think might play a part in the future of this show and since I didn’t see anyone already mention it, I’m going to point it out to see what other people think.
