Anime Quiz 6 Answers

I’ve almost completely gone through the new books I got for Christmas already and started casting around for something new to read. (I’m holding off on The Three Body Problem by Cixin Liu, translated by Ken Liu [himself, one of my favorite new authors] because I want lessen the time I have to wait for the sequel to come out, if only a little bit.) I remembered npr did a top 100 science fiction and fantasy of all time vote/poll list that yielded a very respectable list so I started at the top and decided to read the first one that I hadn’t read and tugged at me to read. I got down to number 11 and saw The Princess Bride and knew I had my next book.

I probably shouldn’t have waited so long to read the book since I love the movie of The Princess Bride to the point that I believe that the people who don’t probably aren’t humans and are probably pod people scheming on taking over the world.

Reading the book lasted all of two days because I just couldn’t put it down. (I was up to 6 AM last night in a mad dash to finish.) There’s parts of it that are different enough that I think everyone who liked the movie should read the book. However, the spirit of what made The Princess Bride exceptional shines just as clearly in the book as it does the movie so there’s no worry about the book disappointing after watching the movie. It’s easily understandable to see why the book finished at number 11.

Anyways, here’s the answers to this week’s anime quiz.

The Best Anime of 2014: Part 0 – The Worst Offenders

Thanks to a personal desire to be as accurate about anime as I can be for this anime blog, I watch series that don’t necessarily interest me and series that I know will probably stink. Sometimes I’m surprised and find that diamond in the rough. Sometimes the anime is as bad as I thought it would be. More often, I’m stuck watching anime that isn’t quite bad enough to outright drop but not good enough to enjoy watching. I’d rather spend my time blogging about the good stuff but, once a year, I want to focus on the mediocre, the bad, and the terrible anime that I watched in the past year to cleanse the palette and remind myself that not all anime is good.

This section of awards and the worst of countdown is that focus.

If you haven’t read one of my seasonal or year end reviews before, I try to keep spoilers to a minimum but there’ll be some because of how they’ll relate to specific awards. Also, as for the continuing shows, only the part of the series that ran during this year is under consideration for this year’s awards.

Now onto the awards.

[Commie] Hanamonogatari [E055B3E8].mkv_snapshot_01.02.26_[2014.08.19_22.32.57]Before I start, I want to point out the new banner. I felt it was time to give the best anime currently airing some of the attention it deserves. If you’re not watching Hunter x Hunter then I don’t want to hear your complaints about the types of anime series that get made nowadays.

Moving on, we’ve now reached the halfway point of the summer season and it’s turned out to be a pretty good season for anime. If the spring continuing series had been a stronger group then this season might have placed somewhere near the top for best anime season. (This statement might be amended later if I can find the time to try Haikyuu!! and Baby Steps and like them.)

For this post, I’m not doing anything fancy; instead, I’m doing a straight countdown towards the best anime of the season starting with the worst of the worst …
