The Best Anime Of 2015 – Part 1: Cast and Character Awards

I do not write stories or create TV series. (I sometimes think I could become a SF writer and among the ideas I’ve had is one for a story that mirrors the recently airing Erased almost exactly except, instead of trying to stop a murder, the main character has to stop 9/11 from happening.) However, I imagine most anime series start out with characters and are fleshed out from there which is why I start here with these awards.

The Best Anime of 2015: Part 0 – The Worst Stuff

Thanks to a personal desire to be as accurate about anime as I can be for this anime blog, I watch series that don’t necessarily interest me and series that I know will probably stink. Sometimes I’m surprised and find that diamond in the rough. Sometimes the anime is as bad as I thought it would be. More often, I’m stuck watching anime that isn’t quite bad enough to outright drop but not good enough to enjoy watching. I’d rather spend my time blogging about the good stuff but, once a year, I want to focus on the mediocre, the bad, and the terrible anime that I watched in the past year to cleanse the palette and remind myself that not all anime is good.

This section of awards and the worst of countdown is that focus.

Summer 2014 Mid-Season Anime Report – Part 2: #13 to #9, The Okay Stuff

[WhyNot] Free! Eternal Summer - 01 [D87811FC].mkv_snapshot_00.23_[2014.08.24_03.29.47]What’s strange about this season of anime is that it appears to feature anime series that are either not very good (hence the 10 series covered yesterday) or pretty good (the 8 series to be covered in the near future) with few series left in the middle ground of mediocrity. The five series that currently make up this group are featured below. My gut tells me that most of these series will raise up or stumble further before the end of the season. To find out if that will happen, don’t forget to tune back in for the season in review post. 🙂

Finding a Way To Make the Wonky MAL Scores Useful

[Anime-Koi] Sabagebu! - 04 [h264-720p][A829CB07].mkv_snapshot_12.01_[2014.08.09_02.25.53]

I’m hardly the first person to realize the scores found on My Anime List (MAL) are not nearly as helpful as they should be. I could disparage the many users that seem allergic to using the bottom half of the grading scale or the owners of MAL for the current system and its lack of features; but, I’d rather be constructive which is why I was thrilled to discover the MAL Score Progressions club.

The MAL Score Progressions club attempts to extract actual useful data from the scores of currently airing anime.

Spring Anime Early Season Impressions – The Good Series

[Underwater] Kanojo ga Flag wo Oraretara - 02 (720p) [632BFB63].mkv_snapshot_12.55_[2014.05.07_04.02.23]Comparing the strength of a anime season to a prior or future season is an old game that people never seem tired of playing. The relevance of these comparisons is a game that’s just as old, though often played by a different set of people. I fall into the group that think these types of comparisons are a valid tool and I don’t mind using them.

In that spirit, let me say clearly and unequivocally that the winter season of anime was better and I miss it.

With that settled, let’s move on.

There are some bright spots this season and these will be what we focus on today. Read on to see a rundown of the best anime airing this season.
