Spring Anime Reviews – Kyouran Kazoku Nikki

A whole of K’s were used in the making of this title.

Here are my review of Kyouran Kazoku Nikki or Frenzied Family Dairy.

Kyouran Kazoku Nikki

What happens when humanity kills the god of destruction and as he’s dieing he says that 1000 years from now his children will destroy the earth? Well, you get this anime.

Set 1000 years in the future from when the god of destruction was killed, aka right now, the Japanese government has identified several people/organisms that carry the god’s DNA and thus could destroy the earth. Instead of killing them (they’re not quite sure who will actually destroy the earth), the government deploys Operation Cozy Family – where they will group everyone that’s been identified into a single family unit and hopefully living as a happy family will stop the destruction of the earth. Ouka, head of operations, at Japan’s Supernatural Phenomenon Treatment Bureau gets tasked with being the father and Kyouka, the 20 year old cat-girl who was worshipped as a goddess in an underground civilization and one of the Children, gets tasked with being the mother.

You can see the whole family in the pic below.

Opening Song

Yes, that was Mosaic.wav, the same group that gave us the OPs to Potemayo and Sumomomo Momomo.

Ending Song

One of the eight endings (yes, eight – each tv station that’s airing this show gets a different ending). Watching it on youtube you can’t read the lyrics but believe me, there quite random.

If the premise sounds very wacky, watching the first episode just confirms this. The wacky and sometimes very random humor will put off some people but not me – I can sit back, relax, and just enjoy what’s going on. It’s a little early to nail down all the characters but so far it seems that all the characters are carrying around pain from events in the pass thus giving each one the justification for destroying the earth. For instance the young girl, Yuuka, was a daughter in a very rich criminal family and had the role of ‘Solitary Doll’ which meant the family abused her in the place of punishing the rest of the family.

This leads me to think that the show will primarily revolve around the family working together to help each other out and hopefully avoid the destruction of the earth, since none of the characters seem particularly bent on destruction right now. I can’t really come up with any negatives right now, so the show gets a rating of:

Rating: 11/12 A+, Wacky and random comedies that are also heart-warming 4TW.
