Sorry; I’m pulling a Peter Jackson. I intended to do this countdown in two parts but, as I finished up, I realized that I had been writing at Extended Edition speed and both halves were entirely too long. I know this takes some of the fun out of the final part because between knowing 2/3 of the countdown along with the honorable mentions means which series are in the top 5 is probably a no-brainer. Oh well, onto the countdown.
Okay, I’m seriously starting to get way to long with these entries; so, for today, I’m going to bend the rules a bit and try not to be so introspective. Bending the rules a bit because I’m going to cover two anime series and the moment is really just a pseudo-moment.
The danger of putting together a list like this is the sudden temptation to rewatch the series that one mentions instead of trying to finish writing up said list. A quick look at what I’m watching confirms that I don’t even have the room to fit in Planetes, Haibane Renmei, or Paranoia Agent. To name but three series that I really want to rewatch right now, maybe over the quieter summer season I’ll find the time. (It might be a quiet season but there’s still Moyashimon season 2 to get excited about.)
I wanted this to be a single post but when I finished, a quick word count showed roughly 3000 words which is just too much to ask people to read in one sitting and also, who wants to scroll through such a long post? So a hasty cut was in order and here we are.
Let’s pick up where the last post left off with number 11 …
I originally wanted to post this as a single post because it is only 16 anime series, not like the nearly 30 anime series I initially checked out in the spring season, but for many of these anime I had more to say then I originally thought I would. If I had more confidence in my writing, I might assume people reading wouldn’t mind trying get through a 3500+ word post .
Before getting to the rest of the countdown I wanted to mention that this double post is just for the new anime series of the season; you’ll have to wait for the season review to see how these anime stack up to spring carryovers.
One of the reasons I like to blog about anime is that it helps focus my thoughts about the anime I watch. This extends to doing these seasonal anime previews; not only do I hope it helps some people out there to try anime they might not have otherwise, I also discover series that I should try and other series I should pass over.
This season is shaping up to be potentially a very strong season, though the lack of a new Shaft series is kind of a disappointment.
